Volunteering is a two-way street; it does much more than just support our club.
OPC volunteers have the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and participate in and photograph events from vantage points not open to the public. Event photography is an opportunity to learn from each other while trying something new, having some fun, and acquiring some new skills.
Our meeting place is provided, at no cost, by Oviedo Recreation and Parks in return for the events we cover for them. We also provide photography services to local nonprofit organizations that support and promote our club. The Pictures we provide are used in print and on the internet with the byline "Courtesy of the Oviedo Photo Club" giving us publicity we could never buy.
Why volunteer? It's a win-win situation for everyone.
|
Our next Board Meeting will be held Sunday, February 19 at Seminole County Library in Oviedo. 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Members are welcome to attend.

We had a very well attended meeting last Monday and our speaker Michelle G. Moss, Esquire provided an interesting and informative presentation on intellectual property law. I think we all have a better understanding of how to protect our photos, when we may be inadvertently licensing others to use our photos and our rights to take photos in public places. Thank you Michelle.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say our members all love photography. And each of us has certain subjects that we love to photograph. But don't limit yourself by prejudging locations and thinking there's nothing I want to shoot there. Our events cover a wide range of subject matter. We also try to plan our field trips so that everyone will be able to shoot their favorite subjects at some point during the year. Sometimes those subjects may turn up in the most unexpected places. It's no secret I love animals and look for them wherever I go. We discovered this very shy cat hiding under the office in the auto salvage yard and it took a lot of patience to get her to pose for a photo that showed her lovely eyes.
We've also started doing some more spur of the moment outings or get togethers to experiment with a particular type of photography or technique. Recently we've covered long exposures at sunrise and night photography. This afternoon we'll have a Lightroom demonstration by Scott at my home. Do you have a suggestion for a get together, field trip or a favorite subject you'd like to shoot? Let us know. Please tell us at a meeting, email us or come to the board meeting and help plan our future outings. Susan

CITY HALL GALLERY
CALL FOR ENTRIES - THEME - OPEN
|
|
The theme for the next round of photos for the City Hall Gallery is open and the deadline for submissions is midnight, March 22, 2017. You may submit up to five photos taken of any subject in any location (G rated please). They must have been taken since March 22, 2015. We will be choosing five new photos for City Hall. The five oldest photos in City Hall will be moved to the Annex building to replace five of the photos currently there. Their three favorite photos, from among the current group hanging, will remain in the annex until the next change.
The submissions will be handled a little differently this time. Please email the club that you wish to participate and you will be provided a link to a dropbox folder for your photos. Do not create a dropbox folder yourself to submit photos. All files submitted should be suitable for printing a 16 x 20 print. You will only be able to see your photos, you will not be able to see the other submissions until after the submission deadline. All submitted photos will be renamed to be anonymous and submitted to our curator for the selection process. You will receive a confirmation email after the photos are renamed and submitted so you can verify they have all been provided to the curator. Once the selection process is completed all submissions will be placed into a nonpublic folder for everyone to see. If your photograph is chosen there will be a $50.00 charge for printing and framing your photograph. All photos will be printed by the club for a consistent appearance.

OVIEDO FARMER'S MARKET - APRIL 1
|
Plan ahead! We will be hosting a booth at the Oviedo Farmer's Market the first Saturday in April, so decide what you would like to display.
Space is a bit more restricted this year, so we are asking that members submit no more than three photographs and we will not be able to accommodate boxed prints. All photographs should be mounted or framed and ready to hang.
As in prior years, the photographs may be offered for sale or simply displayed to "show off" your work. Any photograph offered for sale must be marked with a price and the member must be present.
The Oviedo Farmer's Market is held the first Saturday of each month at the Lawton House.
